Obituary of Della M. Springsteen
Please share a memory of Della to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Della M. Springsteen, passed away on May 19, 2016, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, Guilderland, NY. She was born in Altona, N.Y., daughter of the late Laura Rivers and Orville LaMountain. Della was a long time resident of Rensselaer, N.Y. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Clark W. Springsteen. When she met Clark, it was love at first sight and he was her soul mate and the love of her life. She leaves behind her loving children, Patti, Steve, Teresa and John and a cherished grandson, Chris and a long time dear friend, Michael Alvaro, Sr.
Della was a devout Roman Catholic and a parishioner of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Rensselaer, N.Y. and a volunteer Communicant. She worked at the Watervliet Arsenal for the war effort during World War II. She also worked as a cosmetician consultant for John G. Myers and Flah's in Albany. She later graduated from Hudson Valley Community College, going on to work for the State of New York Audit and Control Office.
Della loved traveling and sailed on several cruises to various countries and especially enjoyed her trip to Italy. She also thoroughly enjoyed her family summer trips to Maine. After retiring from the State of New York, Della loved spending the winter months in Florida. She enjoyed bingo, flea markets and estate sales and never tired of shopping. She also loved swimming and dancing among her many activities. She was an avid animal lover and had several cats who became loving companions over the years.
Della had a gift and ability to make friends with anyone, anywhere, whether it be on an elevator, plane or standing in a line at a restaurant. She loved life and laughter and was a wonderful friend to many, but above all, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Your children and grandson will forever love you, and are comforted by knowing that you are with Dad in Heaven.
Many special thanks and gratitude to the loving staff of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland and Atria Assisted Living in Guilderland. Funeral from the W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Wednesday morning at 9:00 and 10:00 at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church Herrick Street Rensselaer where the funeral mass will be offered.
