Stephentown-George A. Shuhart, Jr. age, 79 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 29, 2016. He was born in Mt. Vernon, NY and lived most of his life in Rensselaer and has resided in Stephentown for the past 23 years. He was a US Navy veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Shuhart was employed as a professional firefighter for the City of Albany for 26 years; George retired in 1986, and also helped create the Albany Permanent Professional Firefighter Association APPFA 2007. He also worked for Wells Fargo Armored Company for 15 years, serving as a Shop Steward for the last 5 of those years for Teamsters Local 294. George also belonged to Rensselaer Council 267 Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge 2530 in Kinderhook, Melvin Roads American Legion Post 1231 in East Greenbush for 44 years, International Association of Firefighters, life member James Hill Hook and Ladder in Rensselaer for 55 years, lifetime member of the Nassau Sportsman Club where he helped organize and run the fishing derby for many years. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church in Rensselaer. Son of the late George A. and Grace Stallone Shuhart, Sr.; husband of Beverly Buckbee Shuhart and the late Joan Vooris Shuhart; father of Joan (Michael) Grzyboski, George (Jacelyn) Shuhart, Debra (Bernhardt) DeGiule, Gary (Maria) Shuhart, Christopher (Cristi) Shuhart and BethAnne (James) LaMountain; grandfather of Stasia Nicole Grzyboski, Carol (Edward) Murray, Michael (Stacey) Grzyboski, Joshua (Jamie) Shuhart, Jeremy (Sonia) Shuhart, Kyle Shuhart, Mindy (Jason) Bean, Bernhardt (Lynn) DeGiule, Derrick (Renee) DeGiule, Jared (Sonia) Shuhart, Zachary Shuhart, Kara Shuhart, Dylan Shuhart, Ethan Shuhart, Heather (Jason) Wood, James (Christine) LaMountain, Jr., Nicole (Clark) Lauer, Stephanie (Brian) Lee, Ericka (Steven) Russell, John, Ian and Sean Neumann and Ashley Buckbee; great-grandfather of Faith Marie Murray, Romany Murray, Maryann Murray, May Grzyboski, Julianna Shuhart, Isabella Shuhart, Paige, Kaylee and Gavin Garget, Lena, Quintan and George Bean, Brevin and Camilla DeGiule, Ava, Justin, Sammy and Elsie DeGiule, Annabelle Mia Shuhart, Hannah Wood, Skylar LaMountain, Clark and Zoe-Rae Lauer, Joanna Lee and Joshua Russell; step-father of Michael (Debra) Buckbee, Stephen (Debra) Buckbee and Susan (Debra) Neumann; brother of Thelma (Mario) Fedele, Dolores (Louis) Dambrosi, Paul (Cathy) Shuhart and the late Catherine (Robert) Mabeus. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 10:30 AM. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Tuesday, July 5, 2016 4-8 pm. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, New Lebanon. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center 301 Hackett Blvd. Albany, NY 12208. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their care, concern and support shown to all of us.
