Obituary of Rose Marie Cornelius

The world lost a spirited, thoughtful, and loving woman, Rose Marie (Lanahan) Cornelius, also known as "Rosie" and "Sissy", age 70. She passed away on Thursday February 23, 2017 at home in Rensselaer after a short illness. Rose Marie was born and raised in Albany and has lived in Rensselaer for the past 48 years.
She was born on October 22, 1946 the daughter of the late Edward and Rose Ann (Leveroni) Lanahan. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist in Rensselaer.
Rose Marie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She married her childhood sweetheart, Edward, in 1964. Together they shared 52 wonderful years before his death. Rose's greatest joy was her family, especially summertime picnics. She also enjoyed traveling to casinos, bingo with family and friends, and socializing with her friends at Renss. Senior Center.
Survivors include her sons, Edward Cornelius III, of Redwood City, Calif. and Mark L. Dabney of Rensselaer, and sister Linda Lee Zusy;
Grandchildren Justin, Deven, Shayla Rose, and great-grandchildren, Elias, Caleb, Ciana, Milana, and Chrisgianie. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, sisters-in-laws and brother-in-laws and close friends.
Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward J. Cornelius, Jr.; her brothers, Robert, James, and Michael Lanahan; and grandson, Christian "Boo" Dabney.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the nurses and staff at Albany Medical Center Hospital, especially to the ICU and the Community Hospice for their kindness and considerate care
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that donations be made in Rose Marie's name to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Rensselaer County, 544 Broadway, Rensselaer, NY 12144. Rose Marie requested that there will be no funeral services.
