Obituary of Elizabeth G. "Betty" Smith
Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Stuyvesant- Elizabeth G. "Betty" Stone Smith, 86 went "Home" from Alzheimers at her residence surrounded by her loving family to be with her beloved husband Blair C. Smith on Friday October 13, 2017. She was lost without him.
She was born in Albany on August 28, 1931 and grew up in Clinton Heights in Rensselaer. She was the daughter of the late George Stone and Mary Powers Stone. She worked at Traveler's Insurance after graduating from the Old Columbia High School. The family apple farm (Smith Farm) was her life's work. She spent her entire life taking care of those around her. She had a heart of gold and baked one mean apple pie .People came by from all over just for a slice. Betty loved to garden, to take care of her granddaughters, to crochet and to go to Saratoga to bet on the ponies. She loved her church and her kitties.
The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to Joy and Ruth from Interim. They loved her like she was their own mother and cared for her as such. Her children were there for her throughout this journey. There is a special place in Heaven for her son David.
Wife of the late Blair C. Smith whom she married on December 1, 1951. Mother of Marjorie (Smith) Sovey (Don), Gerald P. Smith and David J. Smith. Grandmother of Julia K. Sovey and Paige Elizabeth Sovey. Sister of George Stone (Mollie) and Mary Lou Christman (Lowell). She is survived by special nieces Deborah Christman Sheldon, Jean Stone Horner and a special nephews George Stone and John Stone. She is also survived by a host of friends and relatives too numerous to mention.
