Obituary of Patricia A. Phelan

Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
East Greenbush- Patricia Phelan entered into eternal life on Sunday, January 28th. She fought a courageous, extended war with cancer, vanquishing four variations of the disease. The first victory occurred three and a half decades ago. Three more successful battles took place over the last five years. The unrelenting cancer, in this fifth and final battle, tragically prevailed. This courageous lady also faced down several other life threatening, chronic diseases over the past decade and a half. An ardent animal lover, for decades Pat provided a refuge and sustenance for all creatures, having fur or feathers, that visited her back yard. She would look forward, each year, to seeing the animal mothers bringing their babies to Patricia's door. She would speak to them, and some would turn and listen while they were eating. She enjoyed going to garage sales and the thrill of the hunt for that special item she didn't even know she wanted until she found it. Pat took pleasure in collecting Eeyore, Poppin' Fresh, and Charming Tails. A skilled cook, especially for spaghetti sauce, Pat also collected hundreds of cookbooks. None of these interests could hold a candle to the enjoyment she experienced doting on her three grandchildren. Pat was thrilled beyond words each time she became a grandmother. That feeling was evident every time she was with them. Daughter of the late Edward and Ida Coleman Polisky. Beloved wife of David J. Phelan. Loving mother of Kimberly A. Roberts and Alicia A. Phelan. Cherished grandmother of Sean, Sierra and Sophia Roberts. Also survived by her brothers-in-law, Robert, Joseph and Michael Phelan and three nephews. A loving wife and mother, she will forever be missed by this family Pat leaves behind and the friends whose spirits she touched. Funeral mass will be offered at Historic St. Mary's Church, Lodge Street, Albany Wednesday morning at 10 AM. Relatives and friends may call prior to the mass at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer from 8:30- 9:30. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to her medical team that helped sustain Pat through those many years. They include Dr. Hilaire J. Meuwissen, Dr. Alan Sanders, Dr. Dennis Rassias, Dr. Patricia Jolie, Dr. John Phelan, Dr. Carol Roeder, Dr. Muhammad Pasha, Dr. Michael Willen, Dr. Michael Bernstien, Dr. Alina Nazar, Dennis Cicchino, PA, and the team members of their respective practices. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hudson Mohawk Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue Menands, 12204.
