Obituary of William C. Burkart, Sr.

North Greenbush – William C. Burkart, Sr. 81, died Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at his home.

          Born in Albany he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Ryan) Burkart. Bill worked for the Albany Times Union for 42 years retiring as a branch manager. He later worked as a Bus Driver for the East Greenbush Central School District retiring in 2015. Bill was a member of the Greenwich Lodge #2223 Knights of Columbus where he was a forth degree member and was a past member of the Greenwich Elks. He served in the US Air Force stationed at Sampson Air Force Base in Geneva, NY. Bill was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church.

          Bill is survived by his loving wife Susan O. (Ostrander) Burkart; his children William C. Burkart, Jr., Claire (Angelo) Rossi and Katherine (Thomas) Tomisman; his grandson Austin William Tomisman and his brother-in-law Howard Adkins. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was predeceased by his siblings Joan, John, Lillian, Constance, Mercedes, Gerada and Joseph

          Bill’s Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 10am in St. Michael’s Church, 175 Williams Road, Troy. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the W. J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 1 to 4pm. Interment will follow the Mass in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
