The Tobin & Welch families have known each other for 2 generations. We grew up on stories of neighborhood antics of John & Frank. The corner of Elmhurst & Highland Ave carried on with what started a generation ago. Sending love to the Tobin family as you remember ‘big’ John.

Dear Mary and Family, I’m so very sad to learn that John passed. What a great man! He gave me plenty of hard work at Yankee Trails when I was supporting my young family back in the 70’s. For that I remain eternally grateful. God bless you all!

It was heart-breaking to hear of the loss of a Rensselaer “legend” this past weekend. The death of John Tobin, founder of Yankee Trails, marks the passing of an era. John possessed the enduring qualities of one who was truly devoted to his Creator, family, country and community.
While telling stories of past generations, of his Irish and German ancestors from “The Hollow”, John lauded the present generation, especially the children he helped nurture with his wife Mary.
These children, who continue to provide not only quality travel experiences with their successful family business, are a living testament to John and Mary’s committed values: faith in God (and the practice of the faith), love and respect of family (immediate and extended), hard work and service to others as a formula for a life well lived. In this way the “legend” lives on in the legacy of John!!!
