Joseph Owen Quell, 82 of West Sand Lake departed this life on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Albany Medical Center Hospital with family at his side. Joe was born December 10, 1938 in Troy, NY to the late Owen F. and Gertrude A. Landfear Quell. He was one of 8 siblings. As a young man he worked for his dad at Quell’s Garage on Route 150 in Wynantskill. He also spent some years working at Cooley Motors before returning back to run Quell’s Garage after his father passed. Joe retired from the garage in late 1990. Joe enjoyed working in his garden, building bird houses along with many other projects and despite the occasional moments of frustration, he liked working on jigsaw puzzles. He looked forward to his morning coffee group, spending time with his family and friends and enjoying a meal at the Main Street Diner in Valatie. He was the husband of the late Sharon R. Quell, Father of Joseph R. Quell (Teresa), Jeffrey J. Quell (Anna), the late John J. Quell, Steven Henry (Kim), Shannon Smith (Tod) and is survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters, Patricia Heffner, Elizabeth ”Bette” (Ray) Bieg, and Sandra Cooper. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at St. Henry’s Cemetery in Averill Park.
