Obituary of Caitlin M. Kayser

Please share a memory of Caitlin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Castleton- Caitlin Melanie Kayser, 33, of Castleton, NY passed away suddenly on October 2, 2021.

Caitlin is survived by her parents, Mickey and Bill Kayser; her sisters Meghan, Erin, and Micaela Kayser; grandmothers Dorothy Teator and Claire Kropp; birth sisters Carole and Christine Jenks; and a large extended family. She is predeceased by her great grandmother Helen Teator; grandfathers Art Teator, William Kayser, and Ed Kropp; god mother Sherry Dixon; and birth grandmother Noreene Bobear.

We remember Caitlin as a daughter, a sister, a cousin, and a friend. Born on February 13, 1988, Caitlin enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandparents, siblings and cousins as a child, played multiple sports as a teen, and graduated with her regents diploma from Maple Hill High School in 2006. She was fiercely passionate about the things she loved in her life: her childhood dog, Charlie, and her cat, Jet, who she named after her favorite football team; Adam Sandler movies; Nike Shox sneakers; watermelon Pop Tarts and Big Red gum; pumpkin spice coffee season at Dunkin’; scary movies; Reubens; and every last one of her cars.

We will miss the way she hobbled around the house groaning after pushing herself to her limits in a workout; how she could sleep through just about anything, including all of her alarms, the phone ringing, thunderstorms, and earthquakes; how her quick wit would come in the most unexpected moments and never failed to make us laugh. We will remember how she always wanted to watch scary movies and read Stephen King books, even if it meant falling asleep with the lights on for the foreseeable future; how she would happily drink coffee at any hour of the day; the way she would sing loudly to all of her favorite songs with her headphones in.

Caitlin was so many more things than her addiction. To those of you who tried to support her while she struggled with her sobriety, who continued to see and treat her as a complete person and didn’t just reduce her to her disease, we are incredibly grateful for your love and support.

We ask that in Caitlin’s memory you advocate for and support any local, state, and federal efforts to help individuals struggling with addiction: free narcan and drug testing kits, access to state-sponsored addiction rehabilitation and mental health services, and that you extend empathy and kindness to the individuals you come across in life who may also be suffering.

Funeral service will be offered in the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer Thursday at 4pm. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service from 1-4 PM.
