Obituary of Susan M. Kelly

East Greenbush- Susan Kelly of East Greenbush passed away of natural causes on October 4, 2021.

Susan was born in Albany to the late Stanley and Anne Dunn on March 26, 1945. She graduated from St. John’s Academy in Rensselaer and earned her bachelor’s and her master’s degrees from the College of St. Rose. During her career, Susan worked as a social worker at Rensselaer County Child Protective Services and as a child and family services hotline investigator at the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment.

Susan faithfully attended the Latin Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Troy and sang in the choir. She enjoyed traveling, having visited Israel and several locations in Europe. Susan will be remembered for her fun-loving personality, her talents for gardening and decorating, and her deep Catholic faith.

Susan is survived by her loving children, Tara (Peter) Aves of London, England and James Kelly of East Greenbush; by her beloved granddaughters, Susannah and Eliza Aves of London; and by her nephew, Stephen (Maria) Hayford of Albany. She was predeceased by her sister, Geraldine Hayford.

A visitation will be held Monday, October 11 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, October 12 at 9:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 416 Third Street, Troy. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
