Obituary of Kenneth A. Babb

East Greenbush- Kenneth Andrew Babb, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 after a yearlong struggle. Kenneth vowed to live long enough to see the birth of his first grandchild. Mykai Andrew Babb was born October 31, 2021and Kenneth spent the next 24 days in bliss before transitioning to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.   

Kenneth was born in New York City in 1946 to the late John Griffith Babb and his wife Anita. Kenneth and his younger brother, John Jr., were fortunate to have been raised among their large extended family, which included his maternal great grandmother Christina; his grandparents Horatio and Thelma; and his uncles, aunts and cousins on East 100 Street. Kenneth and John Jr. were always kept active by participating in their church Ebenezer Wesleyan Methodists Church and community organizations.

Kenneth served in the US Army from 1966 to 1967 then served in the reserves until 1972,  Kenneth is an alumnus of Bronx Community College and SUNY Albany. In the 1970s he was an assistant director of the Schenectady Boy’s Club. He later worked as a MWBE Contract Administrator for the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.

Kenneth was a founding member of the Albany Land Trust. He worked closely with Black and Hispanic Legislative Caucus throughout most of the 1980s and 90s as a videographer.  Kenneth proudly maintained a relationship with alumnus of Camp Minisink and its associated organizations such as the Cadet Corps, the Minisink Warriors Drum and Bugle Corps, the Order of the Feather Fraternity, the Bonnet and the Tapawingo Honor Society and Counselors in Training. He was a highly skilled calligrapher and an artist exceptional at drawing and painting; he taught these skills to others along the way. Kenneth spent many years creating a book of scriptures related to health and healing which he transcribed using his calligraphy skills and illustrated. This was a labor of love for him which he shared with close family and friends. Ken also played trombone and the accordion.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 26 years Gail Louise Entzminger-Babb; son Immanuel E. Babb; grandson Mykai Andrew Babb; brother John G. (Rosemarie) Babb, Jr.; nieces Leah Nicole Babb, Alexandria Moore, Suraya Babb, and OniYebiye Entzminger-Hinton; and nephews Shareef Babb and Yomi Entzminger-Hinton; as well as a host of great nieces and nephews, in-laws and cousins.

The Babb family wants to take this opportunity to extend its utmost gratitude, love and devotion to Shaquille Aubrey James for his tireless devotion to Kenneth. Shaq”s care of Kenneth over the last eight months allowed Kenneth the opportunity to transition in dignity.

A funeral service will be held in his memory at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue on Monday, December 6^th at 11:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to call prior to the service at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. A repast will be held at the Melvin Roads American Legion Post located at 200 Columbia Turnpike., East Greenbush, NY 12061 beginning at 4:45 PM. *Please note address*
