Obituary of Janice M. Tricarico

Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

East Greenbush- Janice (McDonald) (Seney) Tricarico, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. The daughter of the late Jane (Bardon) and Harry McDonald, Janice was born in Albany and was a graduate of St. John’s Academy in Rensselaer.  A loving and generous person by nature, Janice felt a call to God at an early age and spent one year in a convent as a novitiate when she was 17. While she loved her time there, Janice decided the best way she could serve God was by raising a family and doing good deeds. Not one to “toot her own horn,” Janice always said she didn’t want people to know about her good deeds and donations because then it wouldn’t count toward entry to heaven.

Janice began her higher education at Hudson Valley Community College, where she earned her degree as an RN. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from SUNY Empire State College, all while working and raising 4 daughters. Janice started her career as a Rensselaer County visiting nurse and worked for the Capital District Psychiatric Center, as a Hospice nurse at St. Peter’s Hospital, and finished her career with NYS Social Services, where she administered the Katie Beckett Medicaid program. She was most proud of her second career as the owner of Pine Haven Bed and Breakfast in Albany, which she ran for 25 years. It was the first B&B in Albany and she loved hosting a variety of guests and long- term tenants. She ran her business while working full-time for the state. When she retired, she continued running the B&B until 2016.

Janice was a strong, independent woman who raised her daughters to be the same.  She was a lifelong advocate for women and had a close group of women throughout her life that sustained, empowered, and enriched her life. She was an inspiration to everyone. She also was a strong advocate for higher education and she encouraged others to pursue it.  Many family members became nurses because of her. She loved to travel and try new restaurants, was an avid reader, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles daily.  Most of all she was proud to be the mother of her four daughters, whom she raised to have the same independent, adventurous spirit. She was loved, respected, and admired by all who knew her.

Janice was preceded in death by her late husband, Leland Fasoli and her beloved brother, Thomas McDonald. She leaves behind her four loving daughters, Jill (Seney)((Thomas)) Filkins, Michele (Seney/Arthur ((Thomas)) ) Field, Beth (Seney) ((Christopher)) Schierloh, and Lia (Tricarico ((Matthew)) Carpenter. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian (Erin) Filkins, Alyssa (Filkins ((Robbie)) Albreada; Zachary (Hannah) Arthur, Lindsay Arthur, Nicholas Arthur; Catie & Carly (twins) Schierloh and Olive and Ruby Carpenter; great grandchildren Callum and Maeve Arthur and Cameron Filkins; She is also survived by her brother James (Lynne) McDonald, ex-husbands Alexander Seney and William Tricarico and many cousins, nieces, one nephew and many dear friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Commons, especially Kat Szymanska and Katy Joy for their compassion and dedication to our mother.
