Obituary of Richard F. Sprague
Averill Park- Richard F. Sprague, “Dick”, passed away peacefully in his home in Averill Park on April 11, 2022, after battling a long and courageous fight with cancer.
Richard was born to Francis and Lydia Sprague on May 28, 1937. He enlisted in the Coast Guard out of high school and later worked with his father building homes in Rensselaer County.
He took a job with Niagara Mohawk, where he worked for 37 years. Upon retirement, Richard took up being a “snowbird”, spending his time between Northville, NY on the Sacandaga Lake and Port St. Lucie, FL where he eventually retired permanently.
Richard loved to travel, whether on a cross country trip in an RV, to multiple cruises and trips overseas. He loved boating while at the lake, trips to the casinos and golfing in Florida. He was a member of the American Legion in Port St. Lucie and a life member at the West St. Lucie Elks.
Richard is survived by his first wife, Ann Sprague and their children, Richard M. (Julie) Sprague, Dennis (Tedi) Sprague, Gary (Michelle) Sprague and Linda Sprague; his five grandchildren, Chase, Joshua, Thomas, Dylan and Jessica; his brothers Paul (Sandy) Sprague and David (Jane) Sprague; and his beloved friends in Port St. Lucie, FL.
He was predeceased by his parents and wives; Carol Tryon Sprague and Brenda Demir Sprague.
Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer, Friday, April 15th at 5PM. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to service at the funeral home from 3 – 5PM.
