Karol was my neighbor growing up. Her family loved camping. Everyone was very creative and I remember watching in amazement as her mother Frieda sewed a fur hat. (I think they also had a taxidermied squirrel - no relation to the hat.) Her father Mike had a fishing boat called 3Ks and Little E (Kristine, Karol, Kathleen and Eileen). Karol was a happy little chatterbox as a child and wanted to take part in all the doings on the block. She was energetic and playful, and loved being with family and friends. Charlie and I had the pleasure of catching up with Karol and Paul a few years ago in Rhinebeck. If there is a memorial service, I would love to attend. Sending love and condolences to the whole family. Barbara Hagan

Q: What will you never forget about Karol?
A: Karol I'll never forget the faces you made and your laughter. You being a chaperone for Lonne at a party unknown to me. Your kindness and giving to others. The love for Paul and the kids. Your heart was golden. You are a BFF. you leave us with memories that make it feel like it was only yesterday since I've seen you. You have done more than your share in a lifetime. I love you rest in peace. I pray God will give comfort to your loved ones and support them through all times.

Q: What will you miss most about Karol?
A: When I was 5 she rented a movie called phoenix and the magic carpet. Us kids watched it in the basement when everyone else was watching the super-bowl upstairs. I loved that movie and I tried for so long to find it. She knew this so she found out who made it (a film production in London) and she got it for me for Christmas one year. I watched that VHS so much that after 3 years it was burned from all the times I watched it. She found the one thing I wanted and she made it happen. She always did things like that, and I try to do that for my nephews. I want them to come to me when they want to talk, or to afraid to go to their parents. I will always be there because I had an auntie that showed me how to be the best auntie I could be. .
One time I was trying to make a big POP rock in her living room in Fort Myers and when I put 40th one in it blow up in my face. I just saw her and uncle Paul’s faces and they were not made, they were LAUGHING so hard at what just happened, even though I could not hear them laughing I could see it on their faces.
The Best memories I have is with her in them. I was always so happy to take the 40 bus because I knew I was going to aunties after school when we lived in upstate.
I will miss how she would walk into a room and some how make friends with everyone in that room, it could be a bad day for a total stranger and some how she would make them smile again. She was honest with no filter, if it was in her mind she just said it.
There is not just one thing I will miss, it is all of it, just her everything.
Love
Shannon

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Karol?
A: Words can not express what auntie meant to me. She was my godmother, and she was the world to me. She took me under her wing when I moved to a place that I knew no one. Helped my sister and myself when we needed it the most, and she never asked anything in return.
She is the reason I am scared of frogs, and when I went for my first dress fitting, a frog jumped into my car, my mother in law and my self were not going near it. I asked my mom to take it out, and she did. When we got back into the car I said there is auntie messing with me, and I’m ok with that I know she is watching over us messing with us and it made me smile.
She always had a way to make you feel better weather her craziness (mouth full of food saying lookie lookie) or with her faith that made you feel warm inside, she always knew the right things to say.
When I feel of my bike and cut my shoulder bad, my mom and dad had to work so I went to aunties and whatever I wanted to do we did, no questions asked.
She gave me my first job in Florida working at her stand in the flea market. When I lost my friend she said something told her she had to come see me at our old apartment and she just held me and made me feel better.
I have so many great memories of auntie and I will always carry her with me in my heart. I know she will be at my wedding say “about time Shannon I told you he was a keeper”. She said that the day before my first son was born when we sitting on my back patio, just talking about everything from when I was a kid.
I will always remember the good times we shared together at the campsite in upstate New York, and the old house in Rhinebeck, and even in Florida. I’m glad that I got to know such an amazing person.
Katie, Robert and uncle Paul, the three of you meant the world to her and I know she would never change a thing that she did to make you guys who you all are. She always stuck by her family above all. She will be with us all even if she does not agree with us she will still be there to help us through whatever we are going through.
I Love You auntie!
Love always your goddaughter Shannon

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Karol?
A: My favorite quality about Aunt Karol (Auntie) was her ability to make everyone she came in contact with feel special and laugh. She had the most amazing personality! She embraced everyone, and anyone, and her sense of humor was one of a kind. She was the furthest thing from shy and her ability to connect with people was truly beautiful and admirable. Auntie was also an amazing cook and she was very passionate about feeding people. She made the best pasta and meat sauce around.!! We love you Auntie and you will be forever missed!

Auntie, you mean more to me than I ever told you. From you scaring me to hating frogs. “Oh honey don’t play with them, you could squeeze one and kill it” and since then I have had that nightmare that a frog is trying to kill me. To holding me when I found about about John and telling me that god needed him more. Something about that always helped me get through that. Eating food and saying looky with your mouth full of food. I will never forget all the memories we shared and I know you are up there with grandma and poppy running around crazy. Oh and thanks for the frog that came in my car and making my mother in law and myself yell and mom had to get it out of my car. Leave it to you to still make me laugh and cry all at the same time. I even said it that’s auntie messing with me again. I miss you so much auntie you will never be replaced in any of our hearts. You can always mess with me I’m ok with that. I Love You to the moon and back!

Dearest Paul, Kate snd Robert,
I am so sorry about the passing of Karol. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandma and sister. I will miss her so very much.
I am going to remember all the great times that our family’s went on family vacations every year. Camping at pine-hallow, Catskills mountains etc. Later doing crafts and craft shows. I am so glad that we got to vacation in Sylvan lake with families in the later years.
I know I will meet her again in heaven as we all will someday.
Thank you for being a wonderful sister and friend.
I will always remember the good times and the love you showed to me growing up.

Dear Paul, Katie and Rob,
My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you.
I can honestly say I have only great memories of Karol.
From riding motorcycle down to Stony Brook to
my many trips to Virginia.
But my favorite times were camping every Labor
day and Memorial day in the Catskills by North Lake.
Karol has gone to heaven but her memories will
live forever.
Love Phil and Marcy

Dear Paul, Kate, and Robert,
Words can not express our deepest sympathy on the passing of our dear sister-in-law, Karol.
We remember the very first time we met Karol. She and Paul came to our apartment in Parkchester and announced their engagement. It was the only time we ever saw Karol so quiet and shy!
We have wonderful memories of all our fun-loving Christmas Eves at Grandma and Grandpa's.
And our summer-time visits to your house in Rhinebeck.
We shared many other happy occasions together with our families, and those precious times will always be with us.
We will miss Karol very much, but we know that until we meet again, God will hold her in the palm of His hand.
Love,
Mary Ellen and Pat

Paul, Katie and Robert,
So sorry to hear of Karol's passing. I knew her from the NDH Mothers' Club. We worked on many fundraising projects together. She even had me tutor Robert when he was in first grade. We lost touch. I was glad to learn of her grandchildren and moving to Florida with another business model. She was a good person and will be missed.

Karol was an early childhood friend of mine. The Lantrys lived across the street from us on North Ontario Ave in Lindenhurst. I have such wonderful memories of playing with Karol and all the other kids on our dead end street. Karol could be a bit mischievous at times, which was what made her such a fun playmate!
I am so sorry for your loss, but I know your memories will help comfort you during this difficult time.
I've attached our First Grade class photo from Kellum St School in Lindenhurst. Our teacher was Miss Secor. Karol is seated at the last desk in the row of desks on the left of the photo.
