Obituary of Hazen E. Shambeau

Rensselaer-During the morning hours of Thursday, May 4, 2023, Hazen Ernest (Ernie) Shambeau (83), resident of Rensselaer, NY passed away peacefully at home.

Born April 19th, 1940, at Rutland, Vermont to Hazel May (Whitton) Shambeau and Okley Felix Shambeau.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 57years, Lynn K. Shambeau, and their daughter Marie B. Shambeau. Also, left to honor his memory are his children Debra Hoose, Janet (Stephen) Palella, Ernie (Cheri) Shambeau, and Carolynn Poole (Stephen Perez).  Ernie is also survived by his nine grandchildren Constance (Keith) Hogan, David Henderson, Kevin (Sarah) Graham, Stephen (Kate) Palella, Edward Shambeau, Autumn (Andre) Bisaillon, Renee Poole, Brian Poole, Jolene Perez, and his four great grandchildren Jackson Hogan, Grant Hogan, Julian Shambeau and Aryah Gaulden.

Ernie served his country on the USS Independence. Ernie was a loyal friend, father and grandfather. You could often find him helping one of his many family members, spending time at camp with his family, or in his print shop. Ernie was a dedicated worker, who led by example. He put pride in everything he produced and never let the challenges of life get in the way of his ability to do his job well. As a grandfather to nine grandchildren, he always found a way to make them each feel special, either with nicknames, or inside jokes. Ernie’s legacy will live on in all of the lives that he touched. He will be dearly missed.

We ask that you join us in celebrating his remarkable life with a gathering of friends and family for visitation and remembrance on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 10:00-11:30am at the Lyons Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave Rensselaer, NY 12144. A service will follow at 11:30am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Greenbush.
