Obituary of Albert V. Hanley, Jr.
Albert V. Hanley Jr, 77, was called home on August 1, 2023 at his home in Coral Gables, Fl after several months of heart difficulties. Known by many as “Al” or “Buddy”, he had many passions, businesses, and countless accomplishments throughout his lifetime.
Al was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Mary (nee Polsinello) Hanley, his younger brother James Hanley, and his older sister Mary Agnes (Hanley) Smith. Al was a US Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam war along with his sister Mary Agnes, and was part of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Al loved being a teacher of many things in life, including training commercial truck drivers, automobile drivers, and business lessons to many. Prior to serving in the military, he started his college degree at Hudson Valley Community College, where he later met his greatest supporter and future wife, Joan. Al then completed his BA at SUNY Albany while raising a family and running a business.
Al is survived by his three children, Albert Hanley III (Carole), Michael Hanley (Evelyn), Andrea Hanley and their loving mother Joan Hanley. He loved being a “Papa” to his six grandchildren, Katherine, Kelly, and Mélina Hanley, Caroline and Andrew Hanley, and Josephine Hanley. Al is also survived by his brother John (Robin) Hanley, sister Diane (James) Reilly and many nieces and nephews who loved their “Uncle Buddy”.
He took pride in his children following in his footsteps in becoming 3rd generation family members to operate and own The CDL School. Together, they operated many truck driver training schools throughout the country and continued the legacy started by his mother and father in the 1960’s.
One of Al’s passions was owning, racing, and breeding thoroughbred horses. He and Joan loved traveling together to watch their horses run at Saratoga, Aqueduct, and Belmont Park. Al also loved animals and his many cats over the years that were dear to him and his family.
A wake will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 11am to 2pm at the W.J. Lyons, Jr., Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave, Rensselaer. On Monday August 14th, a Catholic prayer and memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 10am, followed by interment at the family plot in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands. |
