Obituary of Victor A. Eriole

Rensselaer- Victor Anthony Eriole passed away in the early morning of September 5, 2023. Victor was the 8th of 10 children born to Paul and Olympia Eriole, on October 15, 1943. He graduated from St. John's High School in Rensselaer in 1962, where he excelled in varsity basketball. Victor served honorably in the National Guard, and was a member of the East Greenbush Knights of Columbus for several years. He was an admired youth sports coach with the East Greenbush Girls Softball league, and volunteered at numerous church events at his long-time parish, St. Mary's of Clinton Heights, including running the food tent at the church's annual Bazaar. Professionally, he was a gifted artisan in the taping and sheet rocking trade. In his retirement he enjoyed being an active member of the Franciscan Heights senior community and maintained a community garden there. He was most proud of his work delivering meals and smiles for the Rensselaer County Meals on Wheels Program.

Victor was predeceased by his first wife, Marjorie Sweitzer, and is survived by their four children: Christine Bugbee; Joseph Eriole (Josie), Susan Eriole, and Mark Eriole (Bridget). He was much loved by his 10 grandchildren whom he adored: Carolyn, Matthew, Elizabeth, Ian, Lily, Christopher, Wyatt, Olivia, Maya, and Lucas. Victor was expecting two great grandchildren this winter. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins, his sister Sandra, and his brother Albert and sister-in-law Barbara, in whose dedicated care he lived comfortably during the last two years of his life.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 9:30am - 11:00am to the W.J. Lyons, Jr., Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A funeral mass will follow at Holy Spirit Church, East Greenbush at 11:30 am.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
