Obituary of William J. Coons

West Sand Lake - William "Bill" J. Coons, 51, passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2024, at Albany Medical Center. Born on September 14, 1972, in Catskill, NY, Bill was the devoted son of John "Jack" and Jean Coons.

Renowned for his unwavering work ethic and profound love for his family, Bill served as the former fire chief of the Taborton Fire Company, departing in 2015 due to health concerns after eight years of dedicated service. He also volunteered as a driver with the Sand Lake Ambulance, embodying selflessness and compassion in his commitment to aiding others.

Alongside his parents, Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Grace Reynolds Coons, and cherished children: Victoria Reynolds (Tyler Corelli), Alysha (Christopher) Chamberlain, and Zachariah Coons. Affectionately known as "Grumppa" to Violet Chamberlain, he treasured her beyond words. He was the caring brother of Andrea (Rick) Ulisano and the devoted son-in-law of Anne Reynolds and the late William Reynolds, as well as the brother-in-law of Junann Reynolds. Bill was the adored uncle of David (Nadia) Decker-Kahn, Tyler (Claudia) Ryan, Chase Ulisano, Kayla Sitterly, Erica (Andrew) Cortese, and Brittany Reynolds, and the proud great-uncle of Sophia Cortese. He is also survived by his canine companions, Nova, Calli, and Nala.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 6 pm at the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. All are welcome to attend, with visitation hours from 4-6 pm prior to the service.
