Obituary of Elsie M. Brady

Rensselaer-Elsie M. Brady, age 89, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Albany Medical Center. She was born on September 19, 1934 in Brookfield, OH, to the late Warren G. and Ruth (Wortman) Sheldon.

Elsie graduated from Howland High School in Ohio and later went on to work for New York Telephone Company and NYNEX for 40 years, retiring as a supervisor. She raised her three children as a single parent and worked hard to provide for them.  She never missed a day of work and instilled the same work ethic in her kids.

Elsie loved spending time with her family and was present for all of her children’s and grandchildren’s sports, music and school events. She will be remembered as a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. She would often volunteer at school to help other children.

Elsie is survived and will be greatly missed by her children James Brady, Bryan Brady and Sheila (Thomas) Hand; her grandchildren, James, Russell, Max, Stephanie, Cullan, Alyssa, Zachary, Sarah, Hannah; her great-grandchildren, Jakob, Kylie, Paxton, Levi, Evelyn, and Maeve. She is also survived by her brother William Sheldon and her sister, Jeannie Mercer.

Along with her parents, Elsie is predeceased by her stepmother, Grace Darrigo, her brothers W. Glen Sheldon, Harry D. Sheldon, and Vince Sheldon and sister, Shirley Sheldon Peters.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 4-6pm, to the W.J. Lyons Jr., Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer. A service of remembrance will be offered immediately following at 6pm.
