Please share a memory of Eileen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
NORTH GREENBUSH _Eileen Roberts Plante, 89 passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at her home, with the support of her family and friends.
Born in Watervliet, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Genevieve O'Brien Roberts. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, George T. Plante in 2005.
Survivors include her beloved five children: Barbara E. Fenlon of Middletown, RI; David R. (Cynthia) of Ballston Spa; Rosemary Parker (Brian) of Delaware, OH; Peter M. (Eileen) of Pipersville, PA; and Geoffrey S. (Laurel) of West Sand Lake. "Nanny" also leaves behind ten grandchildren: David James (Sarah), Gregory and Matthew Plante; Brenna, Maura, and Bridget Parker; Katharine and Emily Plante; Allison and Megan Plante, and two great grandchildren: Cameron and Oliver Plante. Eileen was preceded in death by her brothers, Harry and Charles L. Roberts, Jr. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and her dear friend and maid of honor, Elizabeth Horn.
Eileen was a graduate of St. Brigid's school in Watervliet and Catholic Central HS (class of '44). After graduation, Eileen worked at Stanley's department store in Troy and later moved to the Kemper Insurance Company in Albany. There, she held positions of increasing responsibility and was eventually appointed to the position of Office Manager. Upon her departure to raise her family, she often quipped that she would be on "an extended maternity leave." Above all else, Eileen was a loving wife and mother. She made sure her kids never missed a 4H or scout meeting, play practice, or sports event that they participated in.
A devout Roman Catholic, Eileen was a long time parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Wynantskill for over 60 years and a member of the Rosary Altar Society. She was a volunteer at St. Jude's for many years and supported many different activities.
Eileen enjoyed spending time with her family, going to the beach, reading, doing puzzles, and tending to her gardens. She loved to travel with her family and in later years cherished her visits with her nephews Peter and Michael and their wives. Each year, she eagerly anticipated the annual reunion with the girls of St. Brigid's 1940 graduates.
Eileen's family wishes to extend their thanks to the caregivers who gave Eileen such compassionate care over the past year: Denise, Wendy, Sarah, Jessie and Andrea. Eileen was grateful for the love, friendship and support of her neighbors Donna, Anele and Dorothy as she prepared to meet her Lord.
